I'm trying to help my parents find a new car. Their 2019 Subaru Ascent did its job and saved their lives in a wreck, but it got totalled in the process.
Now they're looking to get another one. Yeah, they want another Ascent lol.

Since their old car was a Limited with the Tech package, we're trying to figure out what's new on the market.

We know their cool bronze paint is gone, but the Onyx Edition looks like a great option.

My mom's main question is about the Onyx seats, will that material be a nightmare in the California heat?

She'd also miss the driver memory and second row sunshades from the Limited.

Are there any other big differences between the Onyx and a Limited with the Tech package we should know about?

What other big changes are we missing since 2019, besides the bigger screen and a few new safety features?

Do you guys think it's worth it to buy the brand new one, or just buy the used one?

Any update on your parents' car search? The biggest upgrade since their 2019 model is the 2023 refresh, which added a standard 11.6" vertical screen, wireless phone integration and a superior EyeSight safety system. Subaru's StarTex material is a polyurethane that owners report gets less hot in direct sun and cools faster than traditional leather. The Onyx Edition does omit the driver memory, heated second-row seats and sunshades found on the Limited trim. A new or post-refresh used model offers major tech and safety gains over a pre-2023 vehicle.

Big changes since 2019 are mostly tech. If they want comfort and features, go used Limited; if they want new car smell and warranty, then brand new is fine
